General process description cross-flow technology

Ultrafiltration is a physical separation process. It separates aqueous dispersions and emulsions. The medium to be separated is guided past a membrane at high speed and under a certain pressure (cross-flow technology).

The pore size of the membrane is dimensioned so that small molecules, for example water and dissolved substances (permeate), pass through and larger ones are retained (retentate/concentrate).

During recycling, the separation process basically operates as in the disposal process.

Description of system

The KOMPasep-P series systems have the following construction:

  • Collecting vessel
  • Prefiltration with coarse filter
  • Working container
  • Ultrafiltration plant
  • Rinsing container

Under process-related and energetic aspects, these plants are offered in two designs, depending on their size, i.e. in a compact design and in a loop design (feed and bleed). The operation of these systems is subdivided into the following main steps.

  • Separation: Filtration with discharge of the permeate and feeding for the final concentration of the concentrate (e.g. oil content approx. 30%).
  • Thickening: Filtration with discharge of the permeate without feeding for the final concentration of the concentrate (e.g. oil contents approx. 40%).
  • Rinsing: Cleaning of the membrane after lapse of a working cycle.
