AGW Antech Gütling: Settling cyclone for the sedimentation of industrial effluents


Application fields

After its decontamination and neutralization, or in biological purification processes, industrial waste water still contains residues in the form of sludge particles, e. g. heavy metal hydroxides or other settleable substances. To remove them in such a way that the clarified water can be discharged into the sewerage system via final filtration, sedimentation is required. When waste water occurs continuously and includes a high proportion of sludge, the settling cyclone proves of value.

General process description

The basic principle of the settling cyclone for separating suspended solids from waste water and process liquids is the tangential flow of the waste water and the effect of the centrifugal force on the solid particles.
Sludge and settleable substances accumulate in the conical bottom. If required, a rabble mechanism can also be provided for avoiding sedimentations in the conical region. The clarified water freely flows over an overflow gutter and out of the settling cyclone. If required, the settling cyclone can be additionally equipped with a flotation conduit to remove floating substances.

Description of system

The waste water to be clarified flows into the upper zone of the cylindrical part. In the center of the clarification unit, a downward spiral flow is formed and continues down to the lower region. In the process, the agglomerating solid particles are guided in a downward direction or radially outwards.
A rotating "cloud of suspended matter" is formed in the lower region and promotes the agglomeration of the further incoming, freshly precipitated voluminous solid flakes. The funnel-shaped expansion in the upper region acts as a secondary sedimentation zone. The clarified waste water flows over an overflow edge into the collecting pipe and is discharged. The solid particles settle in the conical lower part of the funnel and can be continuously or periodically drawn off into a sludge collection tank.
The further dewatering of the fluid sludge is mainly effected with a chamber filter press.
The system is supplied ready for connection. Only the connecting pipelines for the inlet and outlet must be installed.
