Sodium carbonate accumulates in alkaline, cyanide-containing or cyanide-free electrolytes. Above a concentration of 50-60 g/l, it has a disturbing effect on the precipitation conditions and the quality of metal precipitation. Especially for the modern alloy baths Zn/Fe and Zn/Ni, whose sodium carbonate concentration must be precisely controlled, the Compact Crystallizer ReKrist has proven successful. Apart from sodium carbonate, other disturbing substances, such as sulphate and oxalate, are also separated.

General process description

After the electrolyte has been filled into the crystallizer, the liquid is cooled down to a predetermined temperature. During the further cooling process, an oversaturation occurs which leads to nucleation and crystallization. The cooling shell inside the crystallizer is continuously freed from deposits by a rotating scraper. The unit operates in a batch mode. All settings can be adjusted via PLC. After each cycle, the purified electrolyte is pumped back while the sodium carbonate is forwarded to disposal or further use.

Description of system for separating impurities from electrolytes

The double-walled crystallizer tank with heat insulation is connected with a refrigerator and cold water storage tank to form a unit. A membrane pump fills the container and controls the circulation, the return of electrolyte and the discharge of sodium carbonate. The slowly rotating scraper is continuous in operation. Via the PLC, the individual program stages can be optimally adjusted to the conditions.
